JMJ performing with Beck

Transcription: JMJ on Paper Tiger

Bass transcription: Justin Meldal-Johnsens' line on Becks' Paper Tiger

While I had done many upright bass transcriptions in my past, I had never done a solid electric bass transcription before and I figured I should. This is JMJ's insane line on Paper Tiger from Becks album Sea Change. The track is suspiciously similar to Serge Gainsbourgs' Melody from Histoire de Melody Nelson, especially in vibe, form and instrumentation... but watch'a gonna do.

According to JMJ's account he performed this track on his Guild Starfire II played through an Ampeg Fliptop. His performance is virtuosic, creative and groovy. The interplay with the string arrangement is extremely exciting, and the bass sound is pure perfection. Purefection?
