I Built: A Chasm Reverb Pedal

A super spacey reverb circuit by designer Dead Astronaut

I built the super spacey Chasm Reverb pedal, designed by Dead Astronaut. It is lush and musical. Although there are many reverb pedal builds out there this pedal has a self-oscillation mode that intrigued me. The circuit uses the Belton reverb brick as the basis for its reverb (otherwise you might have to use springs or a plate!).

The controls are:

  • Volume - controls over all output volume
  • Mix - to blend the amount of reverb with dry signal
  • Damp - adjusts brightness of the reverb tone
  • Decay - controls the amount of signal that goes into the auto-oscillation feedback loop.
  • Switch - toggles auto-oscillation on/off

Overall it is a beautiful sounding effect, pairs well with the Echo Base delay, and has been a go to for synth and guitar reverb in live settings.

Here's a shot of my Moog/fretless pedalboard from a show with Joakim at Central Park Summer Stage in New York:

Just like the Echo Base this one was painted by my dear friend Rawan Rihani and it makes me feel as though I am trapped inside of a magical geode of crystalline sound.

Oh, hey

I always love chatting about music, so feel free to...
