Wayne Shorter: On the Eve of Departure
I have so much love for Wayne Shorters 1985 album Atlantis. Between the intricately complex composition, impeccable playing and forward thinking vision I feel as though it was a gem in a decade that most don't associate as a golden age for jazz music. Additionally, Waynes vision to push his composition and integrate synthesizers and midi programming seamlessly into his normally organic process was a huge leap and executed brilliantly. It has been on constant rotation in my life for the last two months: Vinyl, a burned CD in my car, and on mp3 on my computer and phone. This is a little tip of my hat to one of my favorite albums at the moment.
This amazing line was originally performed by bassist and producer Larry Klein. Mr. Klein has made heavy contributions to some of my favorite recordings by Peter Gabriel, Joni Mitchell and Wayne Shorter among others.
